An elderly man finds a magical way to not only re-connect with his recently departed wife but to transform his current reality.

SYNOPSIS
ALWAYS WITH YOU tells the story of newly widowed Jeff Evans as he struggles to find the joy in life without his cherished wife, Carol. Drowning in sadness, Jeff fails to maintain the garden, which was once Carol's pride and joy and was the long-standing source for many of their happy memories. Jeff accidentally discovers a lost roll of Super 8 film and is swiftly transported to another place and time filled with happy and joyous memories of his beloved Carol in her precious garden.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
My intention in making ALWAYS WITH YOU is to tell a story of love lost and film found and how if remembered, both last forever. For this reason, I purposely shot ALWAYS WITH YOU in both Digital and in Super 8 film.
I have found that in some degree we all have gone through the sorrow of losing someone special in our lives. Either a friend, a family member or someone close to us. ALWAYS WITH YOU explores this type of loss but also brings hope in knowing that one, if not forgotten, is never truly gone. The same can be said for film.
We are gradually experiencing the disappearance of film as digital continues to prevail in most productions year after year. In some way, the loss in this short is a metaphor of the disappearance of film, and this is why this story is relevant. It shines a light on this small but magical format called Super 8 and elevates it beyond its limits.
As filmmakers, we not only have the responsibility to remember what came before, but also to utilise the certain magical memories of film to tell a modern story in a fresh yet timeless way. I hope to achieve this with ALWAYS WITH YOU.

HUGO C. DOMENECH WRITER & DIRECTOR

Award winning filmmaker Hugo C. Domenech was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain where he studied Film and Design. He has won a Silver Laus (ADG-FAD, most prestigious National Design Awards in Spain) and several nominations for his motion graphics work.

ALWAYS WITH YOU, his latest short film, has won Best Fantasy Short at the 2017 Atlanta Shortsfest and was premiered at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood during the 20th Dances with Films festival.

Since 2011, the motion graphics piece PINCEL DE ZORRO, which he directed and animated, has earned acclaim across the globe for its combination of live shots and 3D projecting techniques, bringing to life the illustrations of the book and creating a unique fantastical visual experience.

He is responsible for the Main Tittle sequence of movies such as SURROGATES, THE FINAL DESTINATION, FAME and KILLERS.
When he is not working in film or graphics, he loves to invent new creations to use in filmmaking. For this film, he created a video tap system for the Super 8 camera which allowed to used it in Steadicam and slider without the need of constantly having to look through the viewfinder.

Hugo is currently in development of his next project LANA, a 70’s inspired thriller.
